A rubier red color for Bien Nacido Syrah, this wine is still loaded with the vineyard’s herbal, woodsy and animal traits. Capicola, Kalamata olive, licorice and mint lead a resinous nose, while tart raspberry and sour cherry open up the palate. Which is where, as cool-climate Syrah often does, the salinity really comes through. Fresh, immensely drinkable, there’s still some baby fat that with a couple more years of shedding will offer subtlety to the savory, high-toned place this wine is now in. Its energy and ripe tannins are an excellent start.
