Purple and lucid, this wine shows Bien Nacido’s classically sanguine aromas of cured meats, wild game and charred earth, along with ripe red berries and a hint of eucalyptus. Confirming that more restrained and savory style, it’s medium-bodied and bursting with herbal, dark chocolate and salt and pepper accents. Minerality is often lost in California Syrah, but not here, with a pleasant bitterness to complement the finessed tannins and darker fruit on the finish. There’s also enough acidity to keep this wine going for some time. (Tasted October 2023)
