Low bass notes ring loudly from the get-go with tapenade, soppressata, iodine and hot tar making a heady impression. For these more brooding traits, though, there’s a prettiness too, in dried, muddied rose petal and tart black raspberry. Matching the mood, dark fruit carries a weightier, saline palate with an almost sweet edge to lessen the firm, tannic force. While on the plusher side for Rim Rock, it’s still so well-composed, showing the savory, mineral energy this vineyard always delivers. Drink now, or on the sooner side.
